Before you order
Is this different from the durian at my supermarket?
Yes. Most durian sold in American markets is Thai Monthong, cut from the tree early so it survives the flight, or frozen pulp of unknown age. Ours dropped from the tree ripe in Dak Lak, was graded by hand fruit by fruit, and was frozen in liquid nitrogen within hours. You get the whole, uncut fruit, at the ripeness the tree chose.more
Frozen or fresh, which is better?
Frozen at ripeness. A tree-dropped durian is at its best for two or three days, too short to reach America fresh. Frozen fast in liquid nitrogen, the ice crystals stay tiny, so it thaws thick and creamy, not watery. Slow-frozen fruit is the stringy durian people remember being disappointed by.more
Where does it come from?
The Dak Lak Highlands in Vietnam's Central Highlands: red basalt soil, cool nights, and more durian orchards than any province in the country. How many fruits are in a box?
8 lb is 2 whole durians, 12 lb is 3, 16 lb is 4–5, and 27 lb is 6–7. Each whole fruit weighs 3.5–5 lb and yields roughly 1–1.5 lb of flesh — the husk and seeds are most of the weight, as with any durian.One box is 24.3 lb (11 kg) of whole frozen durians. Each Ri6 weighs around 4–6 lb, so a box is usually 4–5 fruits.
What if it arrives spoiled?
It ships frozen in an insulated box by Next Day Air, Monday to Thursday only, so it never sits over a weekend. If a fruit ever arrives thawed or damaged, text us one photo within 30 days and we replace or refund every affected fruit. Nothing to send back.more
How do I thaw it?
Keep it frozen until you need it. Move it to the fridge the day before you want to eat it, then leave it out to soften just before serving. Once thawed, finish it within a day or two and do not refreeze.more
How long does it keep in my freezer?
Six months in your freezer, sealed as it arrived. Move it to the fridge the day before you plan to eat it.
Do you ship to all 50 states?
Yes, free overnight, on the same Monday-to-Thursday schedule. Some Alaska and Hawaii addresses take two days — text us your ZIP code and we'll confirm before you order.
What if nobody is home when it arrives?
The carrier will leave the box at the door by default; bring it inside and into the freezer as soon as you can.
Will my house smell like durian?
Not while it's frozen and sealed. Once thawed and opened, it smells like durian. Keep opened pods in a sealed container and the fridge stays quiet.
