Questions

Common questions

If your question is not here, email us — a person answers.

Before you order

How do I know it is really Musang King?

Check the base. Five seams meet in a clear five-pointed star — that mark is the D197 signature and it is hard to fake. Every fruit we send is graded AAA.

How much fruit do I actually get?

Each whole fruit weighs 3.5–5 lb (1.6–2.3 kg) and yields roughly 1 to 1.5 lb of flesh. Four fruit comfortably feed a table of eight.

How should I keep it?

Leave it in the freezer until the day you want it. Once it has softened, eat it within a day or two and do not put it back.

What if something is wrong when it arrives?

If any fruit arrives damaged or spoiled, send us a photo. We replace that fruit free or refund it, and you keep the original. That stands for 30 days.

Will my whole house smell?

The aroma is strong once it is open — that is the fruit doing what it should. Open it in a room you can air out, and seal what you do not finish in an airtight container.

Where do you deliver?

Every state, overnight, at no extra cost — all 50, Alaska and Hawaii included.

Shipping and delivery

How much is shipping?

Nothing. Overnight shipping is free on every order inside the United States, with no minimum.

Where do you ship?

All 50 states, Alaska and Hawaii included. Not outside the United States yet, and not to PO boxes — an overnight cold package needs a street address.

When will it arrive?

Overnight once your box is dispatched. You get tracking by email the moment it is on its way, and the delivery date is shown at checkout.

Do I need to be there?

Someone should bring the box inside on the day it lands. A cold package left out in the sun is the most common cause of a spoiled delivery, and it is the one part we cannot control.

Can I change or cancel my order?

Yes, while it is still with us — email us and we will cancel and refund in full. Once a box has left our facility we cannot recall it, because it is already travelling overnight on ice.

Keeping it and eating it

Does it arrive frozen?

Yes. Fruit is packed cold and travels that way, so it reaches you in the condition it left us. Keep it in the freezer until the day you want it.

How long does it keep?

Months in the freezer. Once it has softened, eat it within a day or two and do not put it back — refreezing costs you the texture you paid for.

How do I thaw it?

In the fridge overnight for a firmer, colder bite, or a few hours at room temperature for a softer one. Both are correct — it is a matter of how you like it.

How do I open one?

Look at the base for the five-pointed star, rest a knife tip in its centre, push in and twist to split the seam. Wear gloves — the thorns are sharp.

What does it taste like?

Caramel sweetness first, then a dark-chocolate bitterness on the finish, with a texture between custard and soft butter. The bitterness is not a fault — it is what makes Musang King worth more than the sweeter varieties.

About the fruit

What is Musang King?

A Malaysian cultivar, registered as D197. It is the variety people mean when they talk about the best durian — deep yellow, dense, and bitter as well as sweet.

What does AAA mean?

It is our own top grade, not an industry standard. It means the fruit is well filled, sound in the husk, and within our weight range. We do not run a second line — every order gets the same grade.

Is it whole or already cut?

Whole and uncut, in the husk. Opening it yourself is part of it, and the husk is also what protects the flesh in transit.

What is in it, nutritionally?

Per 100 g of flesh: 147 calories, 27.1 g carbohydrate, 3.8 g fibre, 5.3 g fat and 1.5 g protein, with useful thiamin, copper and vitamin C. No cholesterol and no added sugar. Figures are USDA reference values for raw durian.

If something goes wrong

It arrived damaged or spoiled. What now?

Photograph the box and the fruit and email it to us with your order number. We replace any damaged or spoiled fruit free, or refund it in full — your choice. That stands for 30 days after delivery.

Do I have to send the fruit back?

No. Durian does not travel twice, and we would not want it back anyway. Photographs are all we ask for and all we need.

One fruit was smaller than the others.

Fruit is a natural product and every one is different, but each should fall within 3.5–5 lb. If one lands outside that, tell us and we will put it right.

How long does a refund take?

We issue it to your original payment method as soon as the claim is approved. Most banks post it within five to ten business days after that, which is their timing rather than ours.

Paying, trade and contact

What payment methods do you take?

Cards, Apple Pay, PayPal and Shop Pay at checkout, including Shop Pay instalments. We also take Zelle for trade orders — email us and we will arrange it.

Do you sell wholesale?

Yes — by the case, to restaurants, grocers and dessert shops, at the same grade we sell retail. Ask us for trade pricing on the wholesale page.

How do I reach a person?

By email — a person reads every message and replies, usually within one business day. We read English, Mandarin, Cantonese and Vietnamese. We do not take phone calls, so that every answer we give you is in writing.
